South Africans Accuse President Cyril Ramaphosa Of Selling Them Out

It seems like many South Africans have lost faith in President Cyril Ramaphosa and accuse him of selling them out.

Jean-Paul Mira who is the president of the French Intensive Care Society in Paris and Camille Locht suggested live on television that the coronavirus vaccine be tested first in Africa. For the reason that Africans do not have enough resources to contain and manage the spread of the virus. After the video of the two french doctors went viral, Africans were furious and they expressed their anger through twitter. They created the two hashtags (#AfricaIsNotALaboratory and #AfricaIsNotLabRats).

The situation got out of hand in South Africa when News24 falsely reported that Bill Gates mentioned that he wants to test the vaccine first in Africa. After reading that report, South Africans started to accuse president Cyril Ramaphosa of selling them out to Bill Gates. For the reason that Bill Gates mentioned in an interview that he had a conversation with Cyril Ramaphosa regarding precautions taken by South Africa to prevent the rapid spread of the virus. The president also mentioned the donations of the Gates Foundation in a twitter post. But neither of them mentioned the vaccine testing in Africa.

By the time News24 announced that their report on Bill Gates and vaccine testing was fake news, the damage was already done. People were already out-trashing president Cyril Ramaphosa and calling him a 'sell-out'. That story turned the people against their own president!  Just like in February, during the Sona debate, when Honorable Mosiuoa Lekota accused Cyril Ramaphosa of being a sell-out. President Cyril Ramaphosa responded to those accusations and denied ever being a spy or a sell-out.

Can it be that the accusation thrown at the president by Lekota in parliament planted a seed in the minds of the south Africans that the president of South Africa cannot be trusted? Can South Africa overcome these difficult times when the governors and leaders of the country are out for the blood of their own president? Can there ever be progress when the nation has lost faith completely in their leader?
